Matthew 12:22-24

Matthew 12:22: “Then was brought unto him one possessed with a devil, blind, and dumb: and he healed him, insomuch that the blind and dumb both spake and saw.
23 And all the people were amazed, and said, Is not this the son of David?
24 But when the Pharisees heard it, they said, This fellow doth not cast out devils, but by Beelzebub the prince of the devils.”

We’ve discussed this before, so I won’t repeat it all here. This is the unforgivable sin – to watch Jesus, in person, performing miracles, and then to reject Him as being demon-possessed. This generation rejected Jesus, and there was no way to repent of that. This is why they were killed in 70 AD and then scattered.

The fact that this is the unforgivable sin is easy to see. Look at what Jesus tells them in the very next verses:

Matthew 12:31: “Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men.
32 And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come.”

In other words, right after they made this accusation, Jesus told them that what they were doing was a grave sin – a sin so grave that it will never be forgiven. They had gone beyond the point of no return.
