Matthew 9:2

Posted by joncooper

Matthew 9:2: “And, behold, they brought to him a man sick of the palsy, lying on a bed: and Jesus seeing their faith said unto the sick of the palsy; Son, be of good cheer; thy sins be forgiven thee.”

Notice how Jesus immediately met the person’s real need – forgiveness of sins. In another gospel we are told of the great lengths that the man’s friends went to bring him to Christ, but here Matthew sticks to a simpler version of the story. The man needed forgiveness more than anything else (because facing the wrath of God is the greatest problem that anyone will ever have in life), and Jesus granted it – because Jesus has the right to grant forgiveness.

Jesus will forgive all those who come to Him; He will not cast any out. This was true back then and it is still true today.
