Matthew 8:30: “And there was a good way off from them an herd of many swine feeding.”
What’s interesting about this is that the Jews were not allowed to eat pork, and yet we have a little pig farm going on here. Someone was raising pigs and selling them – very possibly to local Jews!
It’s also worth noting that in this story, the demons go into the pigs and the pigs all drown. It’s no wonder that the locals asked Jesus to leave – He basically walked in and destroyed their highly-illegal-but-lucrative crop!
