Matthew 7:15

Matthew 7:15: “Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.”

A wolf in sheep’s clothing means that the person looks good, sounds good, and seems to be harmless, but is actually incredibly dangerous and devastating. Harold Camping (who convinced many people that Jesus would return on May 21, 2011) definitely falls into this category – he was a false prophet. He seemed like a harmless old man, but he ruined a great many lives and caused untold destruction. He falsely prophesied “thus saith the Lord” when the Lord said no such thing – and he did so repeatedly. He seemed like a sheep but he was a ravening wolf.

So, even though a person may look harmless, take heed to what they are saying and compare it to the Word. Exercise discernment. Does the Bible really say what these teachers claim it does? It is vital that we know enough about the Word to separate the sheep from the wolves. If we don’t – if we just accept people based on their appearances – then we are in for a world of harm.
