Matthew 7:12
Matthew 7:12: “Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.”
Here we have the Golden Rule: do unto others as you would have them do undo you. Treat others the way you want to be treated.
Now, this doesn’t mean that if you treat others will they will in return treat you well; chances are they won’t. But this is still binding; it is, as Christ put it, “the law and the prophets”. Be good to others. Be a blessing to those around you – even to your enemies, and even to those who hate you. This is vital. We must lead thoughtful lives – and true love does not seek its own, as 1 Cor 13 reminds us. True love seeks the welfare of others.
