Matthew 7:11

Matthew 7:11: “If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?”

The challenge here is that in many cases the Lord gives us things that are good for us, but they’re not the things that we wanted. We want peaceful lives, and He sends us trials. We want joy, and He sends us pain. We want healing, and He sends us illness. So we begin to wonder if prayer is doing anything at all. Why even bother when it never seems to change anything?

The key to remember is that God can see the whole picture and we cannot. God really does know what is best for us, and we need to trust His judgment – even when it’s not easy to do so. That’s what living by faith means – we trust God even when we don’t understand what He is doing. After all, if we could see the whole picture then we would be living by sight, not faith. The question is, are we going to trust Him, or not?
