Matthew 15:19-20
Matthew 15:19: “For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies:
20 These are the things which defile a man: but to eat with unwashen hands defileth not a man.”
These days we’re told that there’s no such thing as sin. Instead people simply have “imbalances” or “problems” that need to be treated with therapy. The idea that we’re sinners in need of forgiveness and atonement is alien to people. We’re told that with the right treatment and the right pills, we can turn bad people into good ones.
Yet, Jesus was quite clear where sin comes from. What we really need is God’s grace. The cure for evil is a change of heart, and that can only come by the power of Christ. Only God has the power to change our heart and make us new creatures.
