Matthew 11:2-3

Matthew 11:2: “Now when John had heard in the prison the works of Christ, he sent two of his disciples,
3 And said unto him, Art thou he that should come, or do we look for another?”

Even John the Baptist became discouraged and had doubts. The key is that John went to Jesus with his doubts, and the Lord took care of them. Jesus provided ample proof, all throughout His life, that He really was the Messiah. This is the foundation that all of Christianity rests upon; this is the piece of evidence that cannot be cast aside by critics. People dismiss the Bible and its teachings and call Christianity a corruption of this or that, but they cannot escape Jesus.

The fact is that Jesus really did live and die just as the Old Testament Scriptures prophesied – and we have copies of the fulfilled prophecies that predate Christ’s life by centuries. Jesus claimed to be God, and He proved it by rising from the dead – and all twelve of His disciples were willing to be executed rather than say they had not seen the risen Lord with their own eyes. Twelve thoroughly defeated men became so energized that they accepted execution. Why? Because their Lord actually did rise from the dead, and they saw Him – and hundreds of other people did as well. The evidence for the Lord’s resurrection is incredibly strong – and if Jesus was God then that changes everything. The critics can snipe all they want, but the irrefutable fact is that Jesus really is God and He really is coming back. He is the rock that all men must stand upon, or else they will be lost.
