Matthew 8:21-22

Posted by joncooper

Matthew 8:21: “And another of his disciples said unto him, Lord, suffer me first to go and bury my father.
22 But Jesus said unto him, Follow me; and let the dead bury their dead.”

This doesn’t quite mean what it seems. What the person is actually saying is “Lord, let me stay at home until my father dies, and then after he’s gone I will follow You.” But Jesus wasn’t interested in that. He wanted followers that would give up everything for Him, and follow Him with their whole heart – holding nothing back, sacrificing everything, and living with passion.
