Revelation 22:18-19

Revelation 22:18: “For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:
19 And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.”

People often use this verse to say that God forbids adding or deleting from the Bible. While God does forbid tampering with the Scriptures, it must be pointed out that these particular verses are focused solely on the prophecy of Revelation, and not the entire Bible. This is a specific curse for a specific sin.

We should also note that this verse isn’t talking about making an incorrect interpretation of Revelation’s prophecy. I think it refers to tampering with the text itself – deleting passages, or adding new ones, or changing the actual words of the prophecy so that they say something different. That is strictly forbidden – and those who break this commandment will face God’s wrath.
